What Is This?

This is a complete Year 6 Mathematics teaching program covering all 4 terms, 40 weeks, every NSW syllabus outcome. It includes:

What's in Each Lesson

Every week's lesson is a complete teaching sequence — everything you need from Monday to Friday. Here's what each section gives you:

Teaching Flow

• Learning Intention — student-friendly "We are learning to..." statement. Put it on the board.
• Success Criteria — "I can..." statements students check off. Use for self-assessment.
• Warm-Up — a specific named game (e.g., "Salute" or "Multo") with rules. 5-10 minutes.
• Explicit Teaching — the biggest section. Contains:
  • Key vocabulary with definitions
  • Every available strategy with step-by-step instructions
  • 3+ worked examples per strategy with real numbers and full solutions
  • Common misconceptions — what students get wrong and how to address it
• Guided Practice — 3-5 problems to do together (answers included)
• Independent Practice — 5-8 problems for students (answers included)

Support & Extension

• Extension Activities — genuinely challenging tasks for fast finishers
• Differentiation — three tabs:
  • Support — scaffolded tasks with modified problems
  • Core — standard tasks
  • Extension — open-ended investigations

Resources

• Concrete Materials — exactly what to get out of the maths cupboard, with how to use each one
